Option to import your own sounds, custom scales (pentatonic, lydian, etc...) odd metrum and own OBJ,FBX

Hi there, I bought Patch XR yesterday and after playing with it for an hour I am missing two things the most : own samples import. I know you can record your voice or practicily anthing with the Quest Mic but It is not the same as Importing a complex synth sound or organic folley sound.
The second thing are the scales. May be I am missing something, but I was not able to find where I can change the scale of the tonal instruments. It would be also nice to change not only the scale but the octaves for a single “key”. These would be the biggies. It would be also interesting to break out of the straight meter groves which are more pop/dance music oriented into odd meter grooves. All these things would make the Patch XR compositions snanding out as uniqiue. At the moment the limited sound library makes everything coming out of Patch XR a little bit generic. What I would also love to see is the option to import your own OBJs or FBX or another 3D Format. Because then we can make real art and not what you as a developer offering us as assets.

Hi JBF! This is Gad, head of content at PatchXR.

Thanks for your message, I am happy to inform you on a few things:

  1. You can already import 3D meshes , images, videos, Wavs and OGG files by accessing the quest file structure (bellow are instructions how to do that)

  2. In the following weeks we will roll out a user web portal where you will be able to upload, download, and edit your patches and library assets

  3. In the following weeks we will publish a new suite of devices and will update the existing instruments to enable scale editing

I recommend you join our Discord to get news and updates! Please stick around and check the app weekly to see updates! Have fun patching!

Here are instructions for importing your own media:

Importing media

It is possible to add your own audio to use in your world creations, imported media will be available to spawn from the library. You can import files:

  • Audio files (formats: .wav, .ogg) in mono
  • 3D and 2D visuals files (formats: .mtl, .obj, .jpg, .png, .giff)

Visual files will be automatically added to the Venues section of the library, while audio samples will be added to Sounds.

How to upload your assets

PatchWorld content is stored in the following directory:

PC:

  • C:\Users<your_username>\Documents\Patch

Quest 2:

  • Quest 2\Internal shared storage\Android\data\com.PatchXRStudio.PatchXR\files\Patch

Inside the Patch folder you will see the following folders:

  • ContentLibrary
  • DownloadedWorlds
  • SavedWorlds

ContentLibrary is a place for all of the assets you can use in your worlds such as pictures, audio samples etc. Your uploaded assets will be found in the library under the “Custom” sub-category, while assets from other users will be found in “Other”. You can modify the assets of another user and save them by your name. The original asset will be kept without changes, and you can use it in your worlds as it is.

DownloadedWorlds stores worlds you downloaded from the hub. Doesn’t matter if it is an EP or world created by another user or even by you. If it was downloaded, it comes here. Downloaded worlds are already bundled with assets so they are not using anything from ContentLibrary. But you can steal these assets into your library, use them in your worlds, modify them and save your own modifications.

SavedWorlds is your space. Every time you press the “Save as” button for the world and files come to here. You can see a list of your saved worlds in the hub in the Build tab by the “Drafts” label.

Importing media

  • Go to Patch/ContentLibrary/YourUserName-YourUserID and drop your files here in the correct folder (meshes, images, sample, etc…) to add them to the library
  • Supported audio files formats: .wav, .ogg
  • Supported visuals file formats: .mtl, .obj, with .jpg or .png textures.
